I am the Associate Director of the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment at UC Berkeley, where I oversee an ambitious range of policy-relevant research on the lives of workers. I also teach in the Department of City and Regional Planning at Berkeley. My own research focuses on public finance and local governance, in particular the public workforce and how the normalization of austerity / scarcity reproduces structural inequalities.
